In the production process of EPE packaging materials, physical foaming is used instead of chemical foaming. At present, the most common way of foaming is to use butane gas as foaming agent. If there is no butane gas, LPG, methane or propane can also be used as substitutes for butane . At the same time, many EPE product manufacturers in China are trying to replace butane gas with carbon dioxide as foaming agent.

The butane gas is in a liquid state when it is in the gas bottle. After it is injected into the screw, it mixes with the melted LDPE, GMS, talcum and moves forward with the rotating of the screw. When it arrives at the die head, it will turn into gas immediately when it is extruded, and the liquefied butane gas is mixed with LDPE and other additives evenly. The foaming of LDPE resin is the result of the transformation of physical foaming agent from liquid to gaseous state.
